What is Ignou BA Major & BA General?

There are two ways in which learners can pursue the Ignou BA programme. They can opt any one from BA (Major) and BA(General) to complete their Bachelor degree. The learners can complete their degree in specific discipline.

Ignou BA Major –  As the name suggests, if any learner wishes to do the specialization in any particular subject then he can opt for BA (Major) to pursue their degree in any one of the following disciplines:

• English
• Hindi
• Urdu
• Economics
• History
• Political Science
• Public Administration
• Sociology
• Psychology
• Philosophy
• Mathematics

It will help the learners to go for higher studies in the same discipline in future if they desire. If the learners choose to do the BA (Major), then they have to choose the courses worth 48 credits from that discipline, except for Mathematics.

In the case of specialization in mathematics, the students have to opt courses worth 40 credits from Mathematics to obtain BA Major degree in Mathematics.

Ignou BA General – The students who choose to complete their Bachelor Degree as BA (General), can select the courses from all the available disciplines.

But it is advised to choose the courses from any 2 or 3 disciplines because if you choose all the courses from different discipline then you will not able to gain enough knowledge about any of the disciplines.
