IGNOU launches MOOC Courses to promote digital education
The Indira Gandhi National Open University has now entered into the digital education sphere also. The university has started 11 free of cost ‘Massive Open Online Course’. The announcement related to launch of these courses has been made by Minister of State for Human Resource Development Mahendranath Pandey on the occassion of Ignou 30th Convocation.
While addressing the students and university professionals, he told that the Ignou has now made an expansion in its distance learning programme to provide free Open education as well. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has provided Ignou the ‘self’ and ‘self-interest’ channels so that the university can provide education to the students in the field of digital education and bring digital revolution in the field of higher education as well.
The university has already started the two courses out of proposed eleven. These include certificate courses in Russian language and certificate courses in e-learning. The university will start the remaining nine courses by the end of this month as well.
According to senior offical of Indira Gandhi National Open University, the university is planning to start 44 more MOOCs in the next three months. The purpose of MASIVE Open Online Course (MOOC) system is to ensure unlimited partnership and free access by making use of web.
In the Ignou 30th convocation, 120 students are awarded with PhDs, 10 with MPhils and 66 students have been awarded with gold medals.
