On the request of Indian Nursing Council, the Indira Gandhi National Open University launched the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree programme under the School of Health Sciences(SOHS). It was launched in July 1994 and is recognised by the Indian Nursing Council (INC).
The main reason behind the introduction of this course is to meet the increasing demand of higher education for working nurses. At present the number of colleges providing the higher education to the working nurses is very less due to shortage of Colleges of Nursing and number of seats available in them.
The introduction of Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing programme will fulfill the objective of making higher education available within the reach of all which is the emphasis by the New National Policy of Education.
